The St. Galler Kantonalbank (SGKB) was founded in 1868 to provide - like all cantonal banks - the local population and the small and middle-sized companies in the Canton of St. Gallen with banking services and thus support the economy of the region.

The St.Galler Kantonalbank is a stock corporation since 2001 and listed on the Swiss stock exchange. The Canton of St. Gallen as majority shareholder owns 54.8% of the share capital.

As measured by total assets of 2007 St.Galler Kantonalbank is the ninth largest universal bank and the fifth largest cantonal bank in Switzerland. The parent company SGKB offers the entire range of financial services to its clients in den Cantons of St. Gallen and Appenzell Ausserrhoden. Moreover, the bank as an employer, taxpayer and sponsoring partner takes on its responsibility for the economic, social and cultural development of the region.

On June, 30 2008 the group had a total of 1205 employees. The assets of the parent company are covered by a government guarantee. The company has an Aa1 rating of Moody’s.

St.Galler Kantonalbank Germany Ltd. in Munich

St.Galler Kantonalbank Germany Ltd., established in 2009 as a 100% subsidiary of SGKB, concentrates on investment business. It mainly caters for private banking clients, but will also provide services for instutional clients. The subsidiary is a stock corporation according to German company law and is owner of the licence of the German Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht BaFin to operate banking business in Germany.

Hyposwiss Privatbank AG in Zurich has been acquired by SGKB in 2002. The main strength of the bank lies in investment advisory as well as portfolio and asset management. The bank offers custom-made, individual solutions for discerning international private clients.

Hyposwiss Privatbank AG thereby strengthens the private banking know-how within the SGKB Group and provides excellent access to the important financial center of Zurich.

Hyposwiss Private Bank in Geneva

The former Anglo Irish Bank (Suisse) SA has been acquired by SGKB in 2008. The bank strengthens SGKB’s private banking business in Europe as well as in the growing South American market. Furthermore, thanks to its presence in Geneva SGKB is able to further develop its onshore business within Switzerland. In addition, the two branches in Lissabon and Porto provide access to the fast growing and attractive onshore market within the European Union. And through its presence in Portugal SGKB has a good basis to enhance its business in South America.

During the past 15 years, Hyposwiss Private Bank Geneva has built high competence in the field of alternative investments. An area where Hyposwiss Zurich was only active to a very low extent.
